It must have started in high school.  I wrote a feature for the school paper called “Life is a Rock.”  I used the titles of current hit songs to chronicle the student dating scene.  In all honesty, it was a rather sad attempt to join the orbit of kids far more popular, athletically gifted, and better looking than I was.  You know, “If you can’t date ‘em, write about ‘em.”
But the faculty advisor thought I was clever and offered encouragement.  That was all I needed.  I went to college, studied journalism and news writing.  It didn’t matter that I was terrified of public speaking.  I was going to be a TV news reporter, “Because, dammit, Mrs. Levinson said I could.”  Never underestimate the power of a supportive teacher.
After getting my degree, something incredible happened: I got hired.  So I wrote.  I wrote every day.  Sometimes two and three stories a day. For several years.  I traveled.  Met a lot of interesting people.  I even won some awards.  It was a good career, but Life is a Rock, and it was time to roll.
Now I live in North Carolina with my partner, Mike, and our spoiled golden retriever, Dory.  I try to write every day; though Dory often has other ideas.
My current project is called “Dead Enough.”  I know how it ends.  The rest of you will have to wait.
